Please come to the meeting with your ideas and thoughts on what you would like to be included in the 2026 programme. Please don’t be afraid to take a lead. There are plenty of members who are only to happy to help you along the way. SUMMARY:North West – Hardknott Challenge
DESCRIPTION:Wrynose / Hardknott Challenge – Organised by Phil & Nick \nMeet at Carnforth Truck Haven LA5 9RG    10:00am for a 10:30 start \nThis run has challenging sections throughout\, the second and third sections have narrow\, winding and steep roads. Members are responsible for their own vehicle and should drive within their capabilities and with care. \nThe first section of the run is 32 miles and will take approx 1 hour. \nLeaving the Truck Stop this is a beautiful drive up the A6\, through the Lyth Valley\, Bowland Bridge and along the shore of Lake Windermere\, travelling through Bowness to Hayes Garden World in Ambleside. (LA22 0DW). Here there is plenty of free parking for a 45 minute comfort break with cafe and toilets available. \nThe second section is 22 miles and will take approx 1.5 hours. \nLeaving Hayes Garden World we will drive through Ambleside heading toward Keswick\, turning off to Grassmere Village and then travelling through the scenic Great Langdale Valley passing the spectacular Langdale Pikes leading onto the Wrynose and Hardknott Passes. This offers a challenging and exhilarating drive for both driver and passenger!! \nArriving at Dalegarth Station in Boot (CA19 1TG) for 1.5 hour lunch break. \nParking at the station is £4 (cash or card). Reserved parking can be arranged and also tables for those requiring a cafe lunch. The cafe has requested approx numbers\, so could people please indicate if they wish to have lunch by contacting Nick\, by text on 07779 402806 or email on nickslack17@hotmail.co.uk \nThe third section is 37 miles and will take approx 1 hour. \nLeaving Dalegarth Station we travel over the rugged Birker Fell through Ulpha and onto the A595 and A590 to finish at Gilpin Bridge Inn (LA8 8EP) \nWe hope everyone enjoys the run and can join us for a drink. DESCRIPTION:The Bronte Blat \nJoy and Paul have organised a much anticipated run into the greatly acclaimed Bronte country. \nMeeting at Birch Services Eastbound on the M62 at 10:00am for a 10:30 departure. \nThe first part of the run takes us through the Pennines via Newhey\, Mytholmroyd\, Luddenden\, Mixenden and Oxenhope. After a leisurely drive we arrive at Howarth\, Bronte Village Car Park\, BD22 8QN\, where we stop for approximately 1.5 hours. SUMMARY:North West - Sunday Run To Grassington
DESCRIPTION:This event is being organised by David & Shirley Thorpe. \nMeet at Barton Grange Garden Centre\, Garstang Road\, Brock\, Preston\, PR3 0BT. (For Sat Nav use PR3 0RB). 10:00am for a 10:30am start. \nThe first part of the run takes us to the Bridge House Farm Tearoom\, Wray\, Lancaster\, LA2 8QP where we will stop for 30-45 minutes. \nLeaving Wray\, we head into the Yorkshire Dales National Park via Austwick\, Stainforth and Arncliffe then to Grassington where we will park at the Yorkshire Dales National Park Centre \, BD23 5LB.(£3.80 for 2 hours). We stay here 1 hour 30 minutes and so ample time to walk into the village and get something to eat at one of the many dining venues. Depending on the weather conditions\, there are picnic tables available at the National Park Centre so\, if you wish to take a picnic\, that is another option. \nFrom Grassington we head via Kirby Malham and Settle to Slaidburn where we stop for a quick comfort break. We then make our way through Dunsop Bridge and Chipping ending the run at The Roebuck\, Garstang Road\, Bilsborrow\, Preston\, PR3 0RE. \nClick on the link below for the Tulip map. DESCRIPTION:Tony and Judith Kerr are organising this run through Cheshire and East Wales. \nMeeting at Lymm Truckstop\, WA13 0SP\, 10:00am for 10:30 start. \nThe morning drive will take us through Cheshire skirting Delemere Forest and Oulton Park to our coffee stop at a marina where you can enjoy views of the canal and its narrow boats. \nContinuing through Cheshire we will venture into Wales for a lunch stop at Pontcysyllte Aqueduct & Canal World Heritage Site. Here you have the choice of a pub lunch at the Telford Arms\, a lighter bite at Pontcysyllte tearooms or maybe bring your own lunch and chairs for a picnic by the canal. DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to announce the MX-5 Owners Club\, North West Area\, will be displaying a selection of members cars at the Classic and Performance Motor Show\, Hoghton Tower\, Preston\, on Sunday 29th June 2025. \nThe North West will have a stand on the lawns facing the iconic Hoghton Tower which has played host to King James 1st\, Dickens and Shakespeare. This will be our first show at Hoghton Towers although we have exhibited at other shows organised by the Great British Motor Shows in the past\, being at Lytham Hall and Leighton Hall\, each have been very successful. \nWe will be showing 10 cars from Mk 1 (NA) through to RF. The show will have a huge selection of classic and performance cars which may remind you of your youthful years and could be very nostalgic if maybe you once owned a particular model on show. \nYou should be guaranteed a great day out. SUMMARY:North West – Midweek Drive to Coniston
DESCRIPTION:This event has been organised by David and Sheila James which was originally planned for the previous day. Please note the change! \nThe drive runs from Carnforth Truckstop to the Ruskin Museum Car Park in Coniston. From there members can visit the museum to see the refurbished Bluebird that Sir Donald Campbell drove along the Lake. \nA walk down to the Lakeside will also provide an opportunity to take the 12.00 sailing on Coniston or to have lunch at the Bluebird Cafe there. \nParking at the Ruskin Carpark is £7.50 for the day which is similar to other parking cost in Coniston. Members will have to book tickets for the 12.00 sailing themselves which lasts an hour. DESCRIPTION:This run is being organised by Jo and Allan Diamond. \nWe will leave Truck Haven at 10.15 (route now available below and also on our Facebook page) and travel through Wray\, Dunsop Bridge\, Newton-in-Bowland and Cow Ark to the Cross Keys at White Chapel. After lunch we will make one circle of the Beacon Fell Country Park before travelling on to Slaidburn\, Tosside\,and High Bentham before stopping for a break at the Bridge Cafe in Wray. \nIf you require lunch at the Cross Keys\, there are only 40 places available so allocation will be on a first come first served basis. DESCRIPTION:A drive into the Yorkshire Dales is a favourite for the North West Group. On this occasion we have mixed it up a little and have included a tour of the award winning Black Sheep Brewery in Masham. An appealing restaurant\, bar area and well-stocked shop is available for you to enjoy. Meeting from 09:15 on Thursday 15th May at the North Bound M6 Lancaster Services for a prompt 09:45 start we will head up the motorway to junction 34 and onto Hornby and Ingleton where we will pick up the outstanding B6265 over to Ribblehead and Hawes. Skirting Leyburn we expect to arrive in Masham at around 11.45. After lunch and tour we will continue into the dales and across the moors to Kirkby Malzeard\, Pateley Bridge and Grassington. We progress through Gargrave and arrive at our final destination at the ever popular Bull pub at Broughton on the A59. \nPlease note the following:1. Lunch has been arranged for 12 noon. Pre-orders are required.2. A 60-75min tour starts at 1pm. Price for Brewery Tour is £12pp or £10 pp over 60s.3. You do not need to have lunch (other options are available in the nearby centre) or join the tour. However\, it is important that I have an accurate picture of numbers as spaces are limited. Also included is a green pass to enable free access for members.\n\nI have planned a simple drive to Harewood House and if you would like to join a North West convoy\, we will be meeting at KFC car park\, A59 Clitheroe\, BB7 9FL\, 08:30 for a 09:00 start. Directions will be posted on Facebook and OC website shortly.\n\nAlternatively you can make your own way to Harewood House\, Postcode LS17 9LQ. Entrance is on the A61. SUMMARY:North West –Inter Area Event at The Avro Heritage Museum
DESCRIPTION:  \n\n\nThe Ultimate Avro Vulcan Experience\n\nA unique opportunity to visit the Avro Heritage Museum where it is possible to have a photo of our North West MX-5 OC members cars under the wings of the iconic Avro Vulcan XM603\n\nThis event has been organised by the Area Coordinators of the North West\, Peaks and Pennines\,Tyne Tees\,and Yorkshire Ridings.\n\n\nThe Avro Heritage Museum preserves the legacy of Alliot Verdon-Roe and his company A.V.Roe & Co. Located on the former Woodford Aerodrome\, near Stockport\, the site saw the production of famous aircraft including the Lancaster\, Vulcan\, Nimrod and BAE 146.\n\nThe Heritage Museum is packed with fascinating exhibits and home to the only example of an all white Vulcan bomber. There are many activities on offer including a Vulcan Simulator and other hands on equipment. The museum has a small cafe with views of the mighty Vulcan bomber standing proudly outside. There should also be a Burger Van on the car park and there is a local garden centre just opposite the museum entrance which has an excellent restaurant and menu to suit all.\n\n\nThe museum is entirely self funded\, relying on admission fees and staffed by volunteers\, many of whom worked at Woodford. We have a much reduced admission fee of only £10 per car plus voluntary contributions if using the simulator etc.\n\nWe meet at Lymm Services\, WA13 0SP\, 10:00am for a 10:30 start. There will be a short organised drive of 45 minutes to the museum to arrive approximately 11:15am. DESCRIPTION:Irwin and Edwina have arranged a beautiful scenic run through Cumbria where a thoroughly enjoyable time is sure to be had. It is hoped this exciting event will be of particular interest to members residing in the upper northern area of the NW region.\n\nMeeting at The Longlands Inn\, Tewitfield\, Carnforth; LA6 1JH\, for coffee from 09:15 we shall depart at 10:00 prompt for the first of three legs. Of around one hour in duration (41 miles) we head North on the A6 through Milnthorpe and on via Kendal and Shap to Abbots Lodge Jersey Ice Cream Parlour\, at Clifton\, near Penrith; CA10 2HD\, where there will be a 45minute stop for you to enjoy a delicious high quality jersey ice cream – or another coffee! We aim to arrive around 11:00 and leave by 11:45 latest.\n\nWe will continue North for a further 46 miles on some great ‘B’ roads via Lowther Park\, Pooley Bridge and Hutton-in-the-Forrest to The Greenhill Hotel; CA7 8LS\, near Wigton where lunch has been arranged which needs to be ordered in advance. See below. We aim to arrive about 13:00 and leave by 14:30 latest.\n\nThe final leg of 50 miles will take us back South via Caldbeck\, Matterdale\, Kirkstone Pass\, Bowness on through Windermere finishing at around 16:00 at The Gilpin Bridge Inn\, at Levens; LA8 8EP where you have the option of joining your fellow members for a farewell drink before easily heading home North or South via the M6.\n\nThe lunch menu will be posted in the ‘Files’ tab on our Facebook page.
